Face the Challenge - Bibliography

The following bibliographical materials were instrumental in writing Face the Challenge either as direct sources or in expanding the author's knowledge of leadership behavior. Some of the more prolific sources for this endeavor were: Christopher Argyris, Fred J. Carvell, Winston S. Churchill, W. Edwards Deming, Peter F. Drucker, Henri Fayol, Mason Haire, Antony Jay, Douglas McGregor, George S. Odiorne, General George S. Patton Jr., and Theodore Roosevelt; whose literary achievements the author highly recommends.

As evidenced by the publication dates of many of the below listed references, it is the author's opinion that though significant progress has been made in the understanding of leadership and motivational behavior since the 1950s and 1960s, that this was the "golden age" of leadership thought; when progress in the social sciences regarding human behavior merged with the quest of business Leaders to achieve greater proficiency (and profits) in accomplishing their goals through people. Subsequently, the ideas or leadership theories developed during this era often provide the foundation for more contemporary texts.

The author also strongly suggests that both budding and senior Leaders can achieve considerable personal growth in the field of leadership and motivation by reading biographies of great Leaders and the accounts of historic undertakings.

Each volume is rated by the author (AR) as to its potential value for augmenting the reader's leadership knowledge and proficiency.
